When my husband and I heard that Marvel‘s The Avengers was coming to the silver screen, we were both pretty excited. Already fans of Iron Man, the Hulk and other super hero favorites, we were ready to go. I was lucky enough to be invited to a press screening (YAY date night!) so we arranged for a sitter and looked forward to seeing the film. Long story short, our sitter ended up getting sick (boo hiss) and our date night was cancelled. So no date night and no Avengers for us.
As soon as I got word of the Blu-Ray/DVD Release date, I knew what we needed to do – a nice family meal, get the kids to bed and have an attempt at Avenger’s date night round two.
I heard that there was an Exclusive Blu-Ray/DVD/Novel Combo Pack at Walmart for the Avengers that also included a graphic novel. I needed a few exciting things like windshield wipers and diapers, so I figured after my ultrasound appointment, I’d head up to Walmart with my daughter to pick up the movie. My husband and I also decided to make it a pizza date night to make up for when we missed it in theaters. That meant driving a little further to a different Walmart since there isn’t one with a full grocery department near us. (Hint hint powers that be!)
We had a pretty successful trip – no traffic on the drive north (which never happens) and found just about everything we had on our list.
Quincy even got some new pants!
We also checked out the holiday treat making supplies. We couldn’t decide between the cookie cutters or the cake pop making kit, but we loved all the choices! SO many choices!
Most importantly, we picked a copy of the Exclusive Blu-Ray/DVD/Novel Combo Pack for our family date night. Not a bad deal for $27.96 (prices in your store might be different!)
Movies, pizza, jeans and other goodies loaded in our cart, and we were just about ready to check out. Quincy and I thought we were being smart by getting in line with only one other customer – until the cashier took 20 minutes to check her out.
We loaded up the car and headed home to drop off the pizza and then to pick up my husband and Quincy’s big brother. As soon as everyone got home, Family Date night was ON!
The MarketSide Pizza couldn’t be easier to prepare. Since it’s made from fresh ingredients it’s as simple as baking and enjoying!
No normally our kids are big fans of pizza. As in they can’t get enough of it. For some reason, they weren’t interested in it, despite it’s deliciousness. Odd kids.
We finished off most of the pizza, and packed up the rest for lunches. Now, personally I’m NOT a fan of cold pizza at any time. No thank you. My husband on the other hand, doesn’t mind so much. Lucky for him, he has two days of lunches!
Lots of cool bonus features came with the Exclusive Blu-Ray/DVD/Novel Combo Pack. One of the neatest things was the Augmented Reality app that is activated by the Avengers App via the Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD or the specially marked MarketSide Pizza boxes. Just by activating the app and scanning a special sticker on one of two packages enables a really cool visual.
Check it out:
Pretty cool, huh? We just wanted it to be interactive. (Psst someone tell the devs!)
Now I’ll fully admit, I like comics and super heros. But the real fan really is my husband. This date night really was about him. So I know he enjoyed all the little extras. Including the graphic novel before we watched The Avengers.
And the movie? The Avengers? Awesome. Super Heros. Excitement. New York City taken over by “aliens” – totally worth waiting for. Am I going to tell you anything else? Nah. 🙂

Be sure to find out if your local Walmart has Avengers Character Appearances in select stores on Saturday, September 29, 2012. I”m bummed that MY Walmart doesn’t have any, but maybe yours does!
