Thanks to The Motherhood for sponsoring today’s discussion on the need to eliminate chemicals and create a safer home!

Eliminate chemicals from your home

Did you know there are more than 80,000 registered chemicals in the United States? Did you know that scientific evidence continues to point to the chemicals we are exposed to in our daily lives as causing or contributing to the rise in childhood behavioral disorders and diseases. It’s time to eliminate chemicals in the United States. Or at least some of them.

In the European Union (EU), 1,328 chemicals have been banned for use in personal care products. In the U.S., only 11 chemicals have been banned or restricted by the FDA. ELEVEN. Which means it’s time to wake up.

What steps can you take to eliminate chemicals in your home?

Earlier this year, I wrote about the 5 steps to create a safer homeHealthy Child Healthy World offers plenty of simple, affordable actions families can take daily at home to decrease chemical exposure. These small steps add up!

5 Easy Steps
1. Take off your shoes at the door.
2. Buy safer body care.
3. Open a window.
4. Eat more whole foods.
5. Ban the can.

What You Can Do

1. Host your own Healthy Baby Home Party!
2. Join the movement: Seventh Generation diapers, wipes and cleaning products at all Target stores nationwide! Now it’s easier than ever to makeover the nursery and cleaning cabinet!
3. Urge Senators to strengthen and pass the Chemical Safety Improvement Act (CSIA).

You can also start eliminating known hazards. Start today. After you’re done reading this blog post, go to your kitchen and bathroom and remove the toxic cleaners. But don’t put them in the regular garbage. Take them to the dump and post them in the hazard waste.

Start cleaning with vinegar, baking soda and plant based soaps. They are still very effective at cleaning without putting you and your children at risk for exposure.

Join the conversation!

Join Seventh Generation for a fun, informative Twitter party on November 15, 1pm EST to talk about all-natural baby product options! We’ll also talk about the Healthy Baby Home Party which give moms an interesting and engaging way to educate friends and family on topics like creating a healthy environment for the next generation.

Prizes: Join the party to win a month’s supply of baby diapers and wipes!! We will be awarding prizes to five lucky winners, all chosen randomly from the U.S. participants who answer the Twitter party trivia questions correctly.
