There is nothing quite like the smell of newly sharpened pencils, a fresh box of crayons and well, let’s be honest, paste. I have very early memories of back to school shopping, picking out my Trapper Keeper with pictures of kittens, convincing my mom I was old enough for college ruled notebook paper, and brightly colored pens all stuffed into a new backpack. I was lucky, because while things were tight, we always had money for back to school supplies.
But as I was well aware then, and even more so now, not all children are so lucky. Did you know that the average teacher spends $356 of their own money on school supplies? Luckily, Walmart makes it very easy to find high quality school supplies at affordable prices. My daughter Quincy and I headed to Walmart yesterday morning to buy some school supplies to help a friend who is also a teacher. Right when we walked in, there was a great display from Elmer’s on the back to school supply list stand. We found information about Elmer’s 1st Day App.
The Elmer’s 1st Day™ app is a FREE mobile app that enables parents to capture thosepriceless “1st day” moments year after year. It also provides teachers a unique platform to share photos of their classrooms, school projects and more with family and friends. Pretty neat huh? Better yet, the photos aren’t public- so only people you share them with will see them.
One of the really cool things about the 1st Day App is that for every photo uploaded (up to 200,000) Elmer’s will donate a school supply to the Kids In Need Foundation And if that wasn’t amazing enough, X-Acto Desinger Series and Walmart are offering a chance to win a trip for four to Disney World! Entry form can be found on the 1st Day App site!
Also, we’re going to make sure to head BACK to Walmart in August to pick up our free 5×7 photo!Just visit the Walmart Photo Department in-store or online at Walmart.com/photo for details. We’ll pick up more school supplies too!
Quincy and I picked out a bunch of fun Elmer’s glues, some new pencils (mmm) and a pretty new lunch tote for our teacher friend.
By now, you’re probably wondering who we are going to Bag It Forward.Well, next week, I’m headed to BlogHer, which is this really great blogging conference, and when I’m there, I get to see my friend Mariah Moon, who writes the blog Formula Mom. I’m really proud of Mariah, because she just completed her special education certification. I couldn’t think of a better teacher to give some new school supplies too! I’ll be sure to share photos of me giving Mariah her special bag, don’t worry!
