Elmer’s #BagItForward to a great Teacher #Cbias

Bag It Forward

There is nothing quite like the smell of newly sharpened pencils, a fresh box of crayons and well, let’s be honest, paste.  I have very early memories of back to school shopping, picking out my Trapper Keeper with pictures of kittens, convincing my mom I was old enough for college ruled notebook paper, and brightly colored pens all stuffed into a new backpack. I was lucky, because while things were tight, we always had money for back to school supplies.

But as I was well aware then, and even more so now, not all children are so lucky. Did you know that the average teacher spends $356 of their own money on school supplies? Luckily, Walmart makes it very easy to find high quality school supplies at affordable prices. My daughter Quincy and I headed to Walmart yesterday morning to buy some school supplies to help a friend who is also a teacher. Right when we walked in, there was a great display from Elmer’s on the back to school supply list stand. We found information about Elmer’s 1st Day App.

The Elmer’s 1st Day™ app is a FREE mobile app that enables parents to capture thosepriceless “1st day” moments year after year. It also provides teachers a unique platform to share photos of their classrooms, school projects and more with family and friends. Pretty neat huh? Better yet, the photos aren’t public- so only people you share them with will see them.

One of the really cool things about the 1st Day App is that for every photo uploaded (up to 200,000) Elmer’s will donate a school supply to the  Kids In Need Foundation And if that wasn’t amazing enough, X-Acto Desinger Series and Walmart are offering a chance to win a trip for four to Disney World! Entry form can be found on the 1st Day App site!

Also, we’re going to make sure to head BACK to Walmart in August to pick up our free 5×7 photo!Just visit the Walmart Photo Department in-store or online at Walmart.com/photo for details. We’ll pick up more school supplies too!

Quincy and I picked out a bunch of fun Elmer’s glues, some new pencils (mmm) and a pretty new lunch tote for our teacher friend.

Quality School SuppliesBack to School

By now, you’re probably wondering who we are going to Bag It Forward.Well, next week, I’m headed to BlogHer, which is this really great blogging conference, and when I’m there, I get to see my friend Mariah Moon, who writes the blog Formula Mom. I’m really proud of Mariah, because she just completed her special education certification. I couldn’t think of a better teacher to give some new school supplies too! I’ll be sure to share photos of me giving Mariah her special bag, don’t worry!

You can see my whole shopping experience at Walmart for quality school supplies at my Google Plus Bag it Forward Album here.

  1. Aww! That is great! I’m so glad that someone is going to be giving her some great supplies. I know that as a future educator, we need all of the supplies we can get. I still don’t have a job nailed down yet though I do have another interview on Monday. At this point, it’s going to be me making a mad dash to get my supplies for the first year. I love Mariah (and you). So, I’m glad to see you are helping her out. 🙂

  2. This is such a great way to give back! I also love that pink glitter glue, I saw it today and almost bought it. {I’ll have to get it next time!}

  3. 1st – We did not have all that glitter glue at our Walmart! #jealous
2nd – How awesome that you are going to #BagItForward to Mariah! She totally rocks! 🙂

  4. Mariah is completely awesome and so deserving of this!! I love that you are able to give to her next week. 🙂

  5. Wow! I am speechless. Really, touched. I just…. See! Speechless! You and Quincy are awesome! Guess I better make sure I leave some empty room in my luggage. My kids will love this!

  6. Awww….that’s awesome. It looks like you made a great choice of the more fun items for Mariah’s new classroom!

  7. I love that the bag it forward program actually helps teachers out. I know that so many teachers spend so much of their own money. Love that you are helping out such a great person also! Thanks for sharing your trip!

  8. Ah, that is so sweet that you get to give it to Mariah even though you are so far apart normally!
They didn’t have that bright sparkly glue at my Walmart, I know I would have got some just for myself if they did.

  9. Your Bag It Forward bag rocks! That Swirl Glam Glitter Glue is very cool; I don’t think I’ve seen it before. It’s so great that you’ll get to see and gift the items to Mariah for her class 🙂 Totally deserving person!

  10. Your opening comment about the smell of sharpened pencils made me laugh. Our girls learned to use the pencil sharpener recently and I smell that smell a lot around here now!
What a great cause to support!

  11. So much color – I am loving your choices. Great cause
