Every night, before bed…

“It’s time to brush your teeth, it’s time to brush your teeth, oh yes it is, you know it is, it’s time to brush your teeth. You brush them left and right, you brush them left and right, you brush and brush and brush and brush, you brush them every night. You brush them right side up, you brush them upside down, you brush and brush, and brush and brush, you brush them all around.”

In our house, we were crown when we brush our teeth...

I considered a video of this, but didn’t want to torment you all with my singing. It really is that bad. So instead, here is my son in his cool cardboard crown, brushing his teeth.

This month, our family took part in the Listerine Oral Care Challenge! We were equipped with new Reach toothbrushes, Reach Dental Floss and an assortment of Listerine mouthwash for both kids and grownups. The Oral Care Challenge was for two weeks, but to really help get the habit going, we’ve been doing it all month long.

The goal? To develop better dental habits by consistently brushing, flossing and rinsing our teeth. Twice a day.

We even put a little calendar up in the bathroom to track our progress – it was a great visual reminder to keep us on task each day! I’m actually considering keeping one up because it’s a great way to keep track – both for me and my son.

Our Listerine Oral Care Challenge Calendar

Flossing was probably the hardest for me. I floss before bed but I admit, unless I had some brisket caught in my teeth, it was still really hard to remember to floss twice a day. And getting my son to floss is sorta like trying to pill a wet cat. 🙂 We did the best we could! I loved the Reach Total Care Mint Floss that the sent, even without the little floss handles I usually use, it was really easy to floss with it, and the flat surface of the floss I felt was much more effective!

Brushing and flossing aren’t enough, and what’s perhaps most important is that 60 second wish to get the 75% of the germs that brushing and flossing leave behind. 75%!! I’ve never been a fan of the taste biting minty “adult” mouthwash and many of the alcohol free ones have a nasty aftertaste – which is never something you want when brushing your teeth right? And try to get a kid to use those! No way! But the Listerine Kid’s Mouthwashes? Not so bad. The Agent Cool Bubble Blast one was a little odd, but hey, if it gets the job done, then that’s okay right?

The Listerine Oral Care Challenge has definitely helped us get on task with a better routine. The calendar helps, like I said, so it’s staying up.

A New Year starts tomorrow, will you take the Listerine Oral Care Challenge and make good oral health a goal for 2012?

Yes! We luv the Agent Blue! This is definitely a challenge in my house, it’s a daily fight to brush properly with my daughter! I, on the other hand, have severly crowded teeth and need to floss 4x daily, and have a genetic emphysema, so my frequent illnesses make me go through new toothbrushes every week-it’s getting WAY too hard to keep stocked up.

  3. I don’t have any kids, but that calendar idea would come in really handy for me! My dentist keeps telling me I need to floss more. I don’t mind doing it, but I just never remember to!
