Today, one of my favorite kids companies announced their latest and greatest in gaming for the preschool and school-age set! The LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Learning Game System!! The Explorer is the latest and greatest in handheld gaming devices for kids 4-9 years old. Don’t be fooled though, my 2 ½ year old loves it!

The Leapster Explorer ($69.99) uses a touch screen or stylus to interact with it’s games and Leaplets from Toy Story 3 to Disney Princesses. At first, There will be 12 games available and 18 Leaplet Learning Apps including e-Books and videos. By the end of the year there will be over 40 games and apps available. Available games ($24.99 each) include Disney Princess, Toy Story 3, Dora the Explorer, Penguins of Madagascar, Ben 10, Disney Fairies, Wolverine and the X-Men, NFL Rush, Spongebob SquarePants, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. You will be happy to know that there are non branded games available as well. The Leaplet apps are downloadable apps including e-Books, videos, and more games which will sell for $7.99 per pack of 2 Leaplet Learning App download cards. Sounds like your iPhone doesn’t it? I know I’m app obsessesed!

From awesome graphics (even my husband was impressed) to 512mb downloadable memory (this is different from the game cartridges) the Explorer really is impressive. If you have more than one child you can even have multiple accounts – of course once your kids see this you will need more than one!

Like other LeapFrog products, the Explorer connects via USB to your computer and you can keep track of your child’s progress with the LeapFrog Learning Path. The Learning Path is a great way to see how the your child is learning and interacting.

The Explorer operates on 4 AA batteries, but there is also a rechargeable docking station (sold separately) that will be available later this year. Thank goodness! Keep an eye out for it another other exciting games and peripherals. (Like a camera that will be available in time for the holidays)

Here’s what’s in the box:
-Leapster Explorer handheld
-Leaplet learning app download card
-Pet game
-USB cable
-Quick start guide
-LeapFrog Connect CD

You will also be happy to know that the LeapFrog Explorer Learning Experience is both Macintosh and PC compatible.

Over all I am really happy we got the sneakpeak of the LeapFrog Explorer Learning Experience. I am excited to see the new games and accessories that will be coming out over the next few months!

Can’t wait? Pre-order one today! (pre-order at amazon.com, toysrus.com, target.com and walmart.com!)
