I kid you not, we’ve probably watched Guardians of the Galaxy 20 times. We had no idea it would be such a hit with our kids – but every day Sebby has been coming home from school and asking for the Raccoon movie (Sorry Groot). Quincy and Edison bop around the living room to the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. It’s like an on going Guardians of the Galaxy movie dance party around here! Maybe it doesn’t seem like a huge deal to you – but let me tell you – it is for our family. We never know what Sebby is going to connect to. So since it’s clear he’s becoming a big fan of Guardians of the Galaxy, we’re going to RUN with it.
You guys know about me and my crazy ideas. Since it’s Christmas time I thought I’d make some Awesome Mix Vol 1 inspired cookies. I love baking cookies. But they can be a ton of work. To make things easier on myself, I cheated a bit and bought premade gingerbread dough and then it was AFTER I hand carved the tapes out of the cookies (after looking up the measurements online since it’s been a good 20 years since I’ve used one) I discovered that I could buy a cassette tape cookie cutter, but I digress. I decorated the cookies with candy melts, frosting and then, of course, used edible markers to write on them (those things are super fun by the way and I’ll be using them again!)
If I do say so myself, my Awesome Mix Vol 1 cookies turned out, well, pretty awesome. Perfect for watching the movie. But all that really matters is the kids like them. Right?
Don’t tell Sebby, but he’s getting a Rocket Raccoon for Christmas. I’m hoping that in two weeks he’ll still be enamored with him. Sadly, though, unlike the one in the movie, Sebby’s Rocket doesn’t talk. (Which is likely a good thing). I have the feeling though when he sees Rocket sticking out of his stocking, he’s going to be asking to watch Guardians of the Galaxy again.
So… I have a secret, Guardians of the Galaxy was released on December 9th, but we’ve had our copy thanks to some pretty great PR peeps for over a week, hence the watching it 20+ times, but we picked up another copy at Walmart to gift it to friends for Christmas. The DVD has awesome features: Exclusive Character O-sleeve and exclusive music zinepack and a 64 page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal. (I totally should have grabbed the DVD and not the Blu-Ray – total fail!) (Some Walmarts even have a super awesome display, so be sure to look for it, mine didn’t!)
There’s some pretty sweet Guardians of the Galaxy gear at Walmart. Plus there are blasters and cool awesome figures! And while we have all of the Guardians of the Galaxy Disney Infinity 2.0 figures, there’s a great deal going on from 12/7 – 12/13, when you buy one of these Disney Infinity 2.0 figures you can get a $5 Walmart Gift Card!
So make sure you get them, and pick up some cookie dough while you’re at it, and buy the soundtrack, so you can have a dance party. Because it’s fun!
