Last month Madame Deals Media and Gutzy Gear offered a group of select bloggers an opportunity. Buy and fill a backpack with as many school supplies as you can for $25. Gutzy Gear would even give some of their “gutzies” to decorate the backpacks. Then donate the backpack to a child in need.
It sounded like a fun opportunity to me, so while we were out shopping this past weekend, I hit up Walmart for some school supplies. I was amazed at how many school supplies I was able to buy! Now, I am not a deal searcher or couponer, so I am sure some of my fellow bloggers participating in this event did much better than me, but I was still excited. I got so many supplies for just over $11!
Well, the backpacks at my local Walmart were MEH. Serious MEH. Not even remotely cute. So I waited.
And I am glad I did.
While doing my grocery shopping last night I found these adorable backpack AND lunch box sets! Half price! So for $14.99 (Instead of $30) I got a cute, fashionable backpack and a matching lunch box. I was pretty pleased with myself.
So backpack was stuffed and ready to go, but now I needed someone to give it to. Since my oldest is only in preschool, I didn’t have a classmate of his to give it to.
I reached out on Facebook.
But here’s the amazing part. The girl, Carey, Suzette is talking about spends more time helping others in her same situation. She’s thoughtful, caring and is making a difference. She’s a published author. She writes for the Huffington Post, has a blog and you can follow her on Twitter too.
This week I’m going to meet up with Carey and give her the backpack. Whether she uses it for her own daughters or donates it to someone else in need, well, that’s up to her. I just know it’s going to the right person.
I want to mention that there is a friendly competition going on for the blogger who saves the most money buying school supplies aka the most bang for their $25. I don’t know what the prize is, they didn’t tell us, and I probably don’t have a shot in the dark of winning it, but if I do, it should go to Carey, she’ll put whatever it is to good use.
I want to thank Madame Deals and Gutzy Gear for supporting such a great campaign. You’re helping others make a difference, and that’s pretty terrific.
Disclosure: The Pay it Forward Gutzy Event is sponsored by Madame Deals and Gutzy Gear. No compensation was received for this post other $25 towards buying the backpack and supplies. All of the opinions here are my own.
