Remembering childhood nursery rhymes…

Quincy and I have been enjoying a new DVD, “The Classic Nursery Rhymes Collection”, it’s a re-release from a 1982 VHS, full of delightful nursery songs and images and animations that will take you back to your childhood.

As a parent, I really appreciated that they didn’t try to “update” it with fancy special effects. Instead, it was like the shows I remembered watching on PBS as a child, and I loved that Quincy could enjoy the music and “pop-up book” animations.

The Classic Nursery Rhymes Collection is 72 traditional nursery rhymes performed in 12 five-minute vignettes (60 minutes running time). It’s a pop-up children’s book that opens and comes alive. The book’s pages become the background for live actors, children, puppets, stop-frame and simple animation story telling. Traditional illustrations and costumes give the program a classic “Olde World” style.

What’s especially nice about this DVD is it’s great to use for some background music when your little ones are playing. The video isn’t overly distracting so it’s the perfect choice. It’s full of old favorites:

Baa Baa Black Sheep
Girls And Boys Come out To Play
Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush
