Rock of Ages is the story of a Sherrie (Julianne Hough), a small town girl who hops on a bus headed to LA in 1987 to pursue her dreams. She meets city boy, Drew(Diego Boneta) on the Sunset Strip and the result is a rock ‘n’ roll romance where they fall in and out of love . Nostalgia hits hard with the 80’s music classics of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and others. It’s the story of dreams, love and the rise and fall of stardom. I don’t want to give too much away with the plot – where would the fun be in that?
Rock of Ages, based on the musical, is a non stop singing sensation by the actors themselves. It starts of with a bus full of passengers belting out “Sister Christian” and goes from there. It’s full of tons of your favorite stars like Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta Jones, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise.
The result is a fun movie that will have you singing along in no time to the 80’s hits. I’ll fully admit, musicals really aren’t my thing. There’s a certain amount of cheese factor I just cannot do. But I really think this is one that people will enjoy, because of all the familiarity of their songs and favorite stars. That is where Rock of Ages really does it right.
So, if you haven’t seen the musical on Broadway or in theaters, don’t miss it when it hits the shelves at Best Buy next Tuesday October 9th.
