Holiday Gift Guide – For the Baby!

If you want to make your own baby food but don’t think you have the time or patience for it, consider the Beaba Babycook. The Beaba Babycook does it all – steams, blends AND you can use it heat jars of babyfood or defrost previously frozen food you’ve made so say goodbye to your microwave. It’s an amazing baby food maker.

My first venture with my Babycook was when I made Sebastian apple pear sauce several years ago, I think the hardest part was peeling the apples (something I hate doing anyway) Put the apples and pears in the steamer basket, put some water in, lid on, and 15 minutes later I had perfectly steamed fruit. About 45 seconds later I had apple sauce!

I’ve since moved on to cookie dough, steamed rice, chickpea crackers and pesto. You can also cook meat, veggies, pasta and more in the Beaba Babycook. It really does allow for easy, hassle free cooking!

Whats great about it:
*One container to steam and blend, so less things to wash.
*I LOVE LOVE LOVE the rice basket steamer. LOVE (sold separately)
*It’s small and compact, a total bonus in my small kitchen.
*Super easy to clean, the parts are dishwasher safe, which is quite nice.

What I wish was different:
*It’s plastic – RUT ROH! Now, I know that there are safe plastics out there and that it is BPA-Safety Tested, but I know some moms will not like this.
*Can there be a ding so I know my apples are done steaming? I am a mom, therefore a space cadet.
*The price might be tough for some, but you are really getting a multi-use machine, so really, for $150, is it that bad? (Considering the cost of premium baby food!)

We love our Babycook. It gets a lot of use in our house. Weekly, if not daily.

One more thing, if you own a Babycook, make sure you clean it on a regular basis. Both the steaming reservoir and mixing bowl.  Just like your coffeepot, buildup can occur. While it’s not harmful, it doesn’t look very nice. 🙂

You can check out the Beaba Babycook for yourself at Scandinavian Child, one of my favorite places on the web for cool baby gear.
