Last week I told you about La Brea Bakery’s Thanksgiving promotion where users will be encouraged to nominate their “Thanksgiving Hero”: people they know and love who regularly work on Thanksgiving serving others (such as firefighters, police, waiters, etc.). La Brea Bakery will deliver fully catered meals to 5 finalists across the nation on Thanksgiving.

There is another hero that people may not think of right away. That hero is the person is the one behind the phone at the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. We all know the holidays can not be the “most wonderful time of year” and it can be difficult to cope. Knowing that there are people that take the time away from their families during the holidays to help others cope is the in my eyes, the very definition of a Thanksgiving Hero.

What makes my friend Cristi amazing is she is such a huge advocate for mental health. Both of her own and others. Whether it’s participating in the Out of the Darkness Walk or being a listening ear, Cristi and others like her are rockstars.
Cristi, and people like her are true Thanksgiving Heroes. #ThanksgiivingHero

Now, I know for a fact that Cristi herself isn’t working on Thanksgiving Day, but someone like her is. Someone is answering hotline phones and helping others cope. And making a difference. So my nomination is for La Brea Bakery to deliver a catered meal to one of the Washington State Chapter offices of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

If you have a Thanksgiving Hero in your life, the deadline to nominate your hero is November 15th.

CONTEST ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS: To submit an entry click the “Thanksgiving Heroes” tab on the La Brea Bakery Facebook page to create your form submission by including: your first and last name; zip code; email address; an essay of 100 words or less telling about your family member or loved one that you will be unable to share Thanksgiving dinner with and submit at least one photograph showing both you and your family member or loved one that you will be unable to share Thanksgiving dinner with. Submissions must be received by November 15th 2015. Finalists will be announced November 17th 2015, after which the public will have a chance to vote for their favorites through November 20th 2015.
