Last week I got a invite to a friend’s baby shower. She’s having a girl. Have you seen baby girl clothes? C.U.T.E. Even the super pink stuff. Well, unless it says “Diva” or “Princess” In addition to passing on some of Quincy’s things to her, I am going to be bestowing her with some cuteness. That’s not pink.
Baby showers aren’t what they used to be, at least the ones I have gone to and invited too. Gone are the cheesy invitations of the 1970’s (sorry Mom) with quilted teddy bears and stacks of blocks. Beautiful classic invitations for baby are appearing in my mailbox. Especially the ones from Tiny Prints. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you should really go take a look, because they are ADORABLE.
In addition to cute invitations, the games have gotten better too. I certainly hope that my friend won’t be subjected to the melted chocolate bar in the diaper (totally gross) or trying jars of baby food with the labels removed. Instead they are participating in less embarrassing games like Baby Bingo where everyone guesses what all the gifts are or cutting pieces of string to the length they think the is the circumference of the expecting mom’s belly is (okay, that one is a little embarrassing)
Less people are bringing a dozen boxes of disposable diapers and wipes and replacing them with gift certificates for cloth diaper services. Baby denim is replacing the traditional layettes and jumperoos are all the rage instead of walkers.
But it all starts with the invitation. A stunning invite like the ones from Tiny Prints really set the tone for a shower. I know if I receive one of their cards in the mail, I won’t be going to a shower with diapers filled with chocolate. 🙂
