Whether you have a 1940s kitchen or an RV, venting by your stove can be a problem. I was so excited to learn about AirHood™, the world’s first portable kitchen air cleaner.
The AirHood features a charcoal-activated filter that pulls in cooking fumes, and grease, passing them through the air for much better ventilation.
We tested the AirHood in my out of date kitchen and also in my mother's camper. It's a game changer.
This AirHood Review explores using an AirHood in a traditional kitchen as well as using an AirHood in an RV or camper.

The Kitchen Air Cleaner
The AirHood is a portable range hood that is suitable when there isn't a traditional range hood. Apartments, RVs and older kitchens are perfect for an AirHood. There are both wired and wireless models, which offer some flexibility. It's a bit noisy, but that's par for the course for any ventilation. Let's be honest, a little bit of noise is a fair trade to not have to constantly clean the oil film off a stove.
Using an AirHood in a traditional kitchen
I have 1940s kitchen that is mostly stuck in the 1940s with the exception of newer appliances. I have one of those in-wall vents that you turn off and on with the chain. You know which one I mean. It's a pain to clean and it works just okay. As in it sucks steam from pasta just fine, but if I'm making anything in the oven that has steam it sets off the smoke detector every single time. And that's not because I am burning my bacon.
Enter the AirHood. Because it's portable, I can get the optimal position for sucking away steam, smoke and odors. The challenge is I still have limited counter space by my stove, but the flexibility of the AirHood means that's not really an issue.
Until I gut my kitchen, which be honest, that's a pipe dream, the AirHood is a fantastic solution for our home. It's a great solution for our kitchen venting needs. The portability is super helpful, whether I'm using it with my glass stop stove or my griddle.
Using an AirHood in a RV or camper
My mother is home owner, weekend RV'r and also has a truck camper. She's commented many times how ventilation when she is cooking is a huge challenge. She was very excited to try the AirHood. Here's what she has to say:
Rated number one by our test kitchen= the smoke alarm did not go off = the AirHood successfully pulled the air and grease away. And in a truck camper thats a five star rating.
The AirHood is so versatile we can use in either our truck camper or our fifthwheel. Its light and very portable. Being easily charged the internal battery takes it anywhere you want it to go . The additional stand allows a choice of heights.
…..I am going to try the AirHood next with the hibachi. Am sure it will pull that pesky smoke away!
Dual Filter Technology
The AirHood has two filters, a charcoal filter and an oil filter.
The charcoal filter helps purify the air. The ventilator in the AirHood draws in the cooking fumes through the activated charcoal filter. The charcoal filter is good for months of use.
The dishwasher safe oil filter helps fight grease buildup by extracting grease particles from the steam. It reduces the strength of lingering odors and prevents the sticky yellow film that develops on kitchen surfaces.
Can I use an AirHood with my gas stove?
You'll notice my mother has a gas stovetop in her camper. You can use your AirHood with a gas stove, but it must be done in compliance with your product user manual and with special care. Here is the the information directly from the AirHood website:
"Cooking next to an open flame exposes the AirHood to more heat than cooking with an electric or induction stove. Generally, the AirHood must always be operated in accordance with the safety instructions given in the user manual.
Wired version: Under observance of the instruction manual's safety instructions, a use with gas stove is possible. However, it should be ensured that there is a sufficiently large distance to the stove in order to protect the device from intense heat exposure and subsequent damage.
Wireless version:The device is battery operated and special care is required. Use in combination with electric and induction stoves is recommended. Use with gas stove may cause high internal temperatures. This can potentially shorten the battery‘s lifespan or lead condensation inside the device, which may damage the battery's electronic circuits."
Wired or Wireless
We opted for the wireless AirHood for ultimate flexibility in our kitchen. The wireless AirHood fully charges in under thtee hours, with a battery life of up to 480 minutes.
The wired option, with it's dedicated cord space, delivers maximum, unlimited power in getting your the air in your kitchen cleaner.
Why choose an AirHood for your kitchen?
AirHood™ solves the problem often associated with conventional built-in range hoods, eliminating insufficient ventilation, noise, and accumulated grime and bacteria. It provides an option for spaces without a kitchen vent with a unique, award-winning design. Colors: Cadmium Orange, Space Black, and Ivory White
