In the oven is a very special cake. The cake for my daughter Quincy's 1st birthday party.
It's a family tradition that on your first birthday you get a banana cake with honey frosting. Both my brother and I had this cake in the 1970's.
Quincy's big brother Sebastian had one on his birthday too.
I like simple traditions like this. And the cake, well, it's delicious. It's nothing special, just the "Standard Method" cake recipe from an old Kitchen Aid recipe book, some bananas added before the dry ingredients. A simple egg and honey frosting (though I think I'm fudging on tradition this year and doing a homemade honey buttercream instead).
I hope in 25 years give or take Quincy and Sebastian are making this cake for their children's first birthdays too.
