We were guests of Disney at a press screening for Captain Marvel.
Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” sidesteps the traditional origin-story template, with Carol Danvers already possessing her superhero powers.Leaving her earthly life behind, she joins an intergalactic elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by their enigmatic commander, Yon-Rogg. But after Danvers has trained and worked with the Starforce team, and becomea valued member¬, she finds herself back on Earth with new questionsabout her past. While on Earth she quickly lands on the radar of Nick Fury, and they must work together against a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls—the notorious Marvel bad guys made even more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities—and their leader, Talos, who is spearheading a Skrull invasion of Earth.
Captain Marvel goes Higher, Further, Faster in Theaters on March 8, 2019.
Captain Marvel Spoiler Free Review
I’ve been super stoked about Captain Marvel since the announcement was made. A female super hero. In her own film. I’m a mom to a super science oriented almost 9 year old daughter, I was stoked. This is long overdue.
Captain Marvel is full of the science fiction and adventure that we love in Marvel films, but more important, the messages female empowerment and equality – which all of our young girls need to hear.
I’ve gotta say, while we were really looking forward to seeing Captain Marvel, we didn’t realize how much we would enjoy it. If you’re like me, and not familiar with the Captain Marvel comics (1967) there are some great surprises and twists as we follow Vers story as she learns about her past and how she comes to be Captain Marvel. We also get some background on Nick Fury. You won’t be disappointed.
As parents, we feel comfortable taking all of our kids (5,8,11) to see Captain Marvel. Some scenes are a little intense, but not anything they haven’t seen in the other Marvel films.
What you really need to know about Captain Marvel
It should come as no surprise that Captain Marvel has some important insight for Avengers: End Game. That being said, stay through the credits. ALL of the credits. Not only will you catch two pivotal scenes, it’s a super cool way to pay respect to all of the great people who worked so hard to give you another epic film in the Marvel franchise. So don’t be that person. Stay.
