The holidays are among us. Already.
The party invitations are already coming in. Potlucks are happening, family meals are being planned. Ham or Turkey? Mashed or Roasted, Steamed or Raw…
and then of course. Dessert.
I am a lover of dessert. All things dessert. If I had my way, my holiday meals would have multiple desserts.
Let’s discuss drink and dessert pairings, shall we?
The first is easy. Cookies and milk. It is Santa’s treat of choice is it not? There’s nothing quite like biting into a cookie that’s just been pulled out of the oven, it’s been cooling a little so it’s crisp but the chocolate is all melty. Brownies would be okay too, all chewy and fudgey. You can add nuts if you’d like. Paired with a glass of cool frothy milk and mmmm.
That’s great for the kids right?
But sometimes the holidays call for something a little more decadent. Like a slice of rich chocolate cake paired with a glass of Merlo or Syrah. Yes, it’s true, wine and cake can go together. But not just any chocolate cake. Not here. Chocolate cake with raspberry layers and a chocolate glaze. This is the holidays right? And we are celebrating after all.
You’d think that making a chocolate cake with a raspberry filling and chocolate glaze would take all afternoon, wouldn’t you? Actually, you can put together this delicious dessert in no time, and be ready to greet your holiday guests with a glass of wine and decadent chocolate goodness.
Duncan Hines made it so easy for me. That’s right. That amazing cake you see above came from a box. The wine didn’t though. (hehe) but I can assure you the cake was simple.
It started with a box of cake mix, a bottle of glaze, and a can of pie filling.
This delicious dessert pairing was as simple as a box of Duncan Hines Triple Chocolate cake mix, Duncan Hines amazing glazes in chocolate, and of course, a can of Duncan Hines Wilderness Premium Raspberry Pie Filling. Oh yes, and don’t forget the bottle of Syrah. Which I did. Luckily my husband brought some home.
