This romantic advent calendar DIY full of romantic date ideas is sponsored.
As if it wasn’t hard enough to find time for romance with my husband, the holidays add another layer of complications. Social obligations for work and the kids school, endless deadlines, and never ending holiday cheer. Some days we’re lucky if we get a smooch in before our head hits the pillow. It seems were lacking date night ideas.
We have a holiday tradition of opening advent calendars every year, so I took a little inspiration from them to make a special romantic advent calendar to remind us to take time for ourselves despite the holiday chaos. I thought it’d be fun to celebrate the “12 Days of Romance.”
The trick to romance is that it doesn’t need to be in the bedroom. Trust me, Alan and I have known each other for over 20 years, we have that kind of intimacy down to a capital T.
First, I put together a list of ideas that would inspire romance, intimacy and well, fun in our marriage. While my “12 Days of Romance” advent calendar only required me to have 12, I wrote down more so we could change things up should we want to use the calendar beyond the holiday season. Clever of me, no?I needed a way to implement my little idea of love and took a quick trip to my favorite craft store.
They had everything I needed:
12 wooden hearts
12 mini clothes pins
small chalkboard
red and green acrylic paint
metallic white acrylic paint
alphanumeric stickers
small easel
glue gun
foam brushes
First I painted the hearts with two coats of paint on each side, allowing them to dry between each coat.
I also painted the border of the chalkboard. I used painter’s tape to protect the surface of the board.
Then, using the glue gun, I glued the clothespins to each heart, making sure I could still open and close the pin.
After it dried, I spaced them evenly on the chalkboard to my liking and glued them down to the board.
After the clip hearts were glued to the board, I numbered them with the stickers (I used stickers because I can’t count on my handwriting.)
I chose 12 of my ideas for intimacy and romance and placed them under the clips. Make sure to print out this list of romantic ideas and activities for your calendar.
I have some fun plans for my husband this holiday season, including sharing massages, surprise date night, breakfast in bed, putting the kids to be early to watch a movie, sending him out with his guy pals for the evening and a few more. It’s always important to keep the intimacy going. We might like our 12 days so much we’ll keep it going.
