I’m a sucker for french fries. And cheese sticks. And chicken fingers. However, I am not a fan of the grease that comes with those savory treats. So I was looking for an alternative that could give me the delicious taste I loved with oil free frying. It’s the Philips Airfryer. I’ll admit, when I learned about the Airfryer I thought it was voodoo science. How could AIR fry food. How could AIR crisp my husbands Alexa Onion Rings to perfection without the aftermath of greasy fingers? Is oil free frying a myth or could it really happen?
How does oil free frying work?
Using Rapid Air technology, the Airfryer circulates hot air around a metal mesh cooking basket, requiring little or no oil as it fries, bakes and grills. The starfish design on the bottom of the Airfryer facilitates air circulation, ensuring your favorite foods cook evenly.
Okay, so I admit, it sounds weird right? But it works. I made Alan some of his favorite onion rings. The first batch? Failed horribly. I set the timer for too long. Whoops. The second try was a success. Slightly lower temperature, slightly lower cooking time. The result was delicious NOT GREASY onion rings where you could taste the flavor not the oil. MMMM. I went on to make waffle fries, shoestring fries and even cheese sticks (those were the bomb by the way). Before get grossed out, we didn’t do that all in one siting. But the point is, we can enjoy our favorite fried treats without the extra calories, and that’s pretty great! The Airfryer means I can have an easy after school snack in minutes! I love that. Whether it’s chicken fries or dinosaur shaped nuggets, it’s pretty much hassle free. If you’re not into fried foods, don’t worry! The Philips Airfryer actually comes with a cookbook for recipes that you can grill, bake and even roast food! So it’s more than a fryer! There’s a souffle recipe that I’m dying to try! Don’t worry, you’ll hear ALL about it when I do! Something else I love is that the frying drawer AND “fry” basket are dishwasher safe. Now I don’t have a dishwasher yet (I’m working on that) but the fact that I don’t have to deal with what to do with used oil and I can just wash with hot and soapy water or a dishwasher? That’s a real bonus. Come on, I’m a mom of 3, I don’t have time for that! I also want to mention that someone at Philips must have heard me complaining about appliance cords at one point and time, because the cord in the Airfryer? It’s retractable. Yup. When it’s not in use you can store it all neat and tidy. So thank you Mr. Engineer for that one.
