Disney, LucasFilm & ABC invited me to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Global Press Event and all I got was a Porg t-shirt & mug, memories of a lifetime and so much more. This post contains affiliate links. I earn a tiny percentage from your purchase at no cost to you.
As if Saturday's visit to Disneyland at holiday time wasn't amazing enough, this past Sunday was the special press event for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the little independent film with the "big ass budget." The experience was of galactic proportions.
What a cooler way to start my morning than sitting in a press conference with Mark Hamill (“Luke Skywalker”), Daisy Ridley (“Rey”), John Boyega (“Finn”), Oscar Isaac (“Poe Dameron”), Adam Driver (“Kylo Ren”), Domhnall Gleeson (“General Hux”), Gwendoline Christie (“Captain Phasma”), Andy Serkis (“Supreme Leader Snoke”), Laura Dern (“Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo”), Kelly Marie Tran (“Rose Tico”) and Director Rian Johnson. You can check out the entire Star Wars: The Last Jedi press conference and my awesome "I held my iPhone for 45 minutes" video skills right here.
SPOILER ALERT: When asked how The Last Jedi was different from The Force Awakens, Mark Hamill not only told us that we'd see more of him in it, but that the movie was longer. 😉
After the q & a at the there were several intimate round table interviews. We had the joy of chatting with Gwendoline Christie, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran and Domnhall Gleeson. Stay tuned next week for those interviews!
The Last Jedi Global Press Event was so much more than a press conference and interviews. The real fan girl moment came when I met my very favorite droid (sorry R2D2) - BB-8. I've been a fan of him since The Force Awakens came out, and it was so much fun to talk to him!
I also met BB-9E, who clearly didn't trust me too much. Who could blame him, I was wearing a Rebel jacket and carrying a lightsaber.
In fact, I'm pretty sure he ratted me out to the Praetorian Guards, where I continued to try and prove my innocence.
I confess, they may have seen my skills in the Star Wars: Jedi Challenge. I used my awesome Jedi reflexes to defeat Darth Maul. This augmented reality game was so much fun!
The costume nerd in me loved seeing the Leia, Luke, Kylo Ren and Rey Costume Vignettes. Seeing them in person and all the intricate details was so cool!
I got some crazy Christmas present ideas. There was an awesome display from Disney Consumer Products that ranged from toys to clothes to collectibles and more. I was really sad to learn that the Rag & Bone shirt with "More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine" was already sold out. BUT I did already go to the Gap this week to pick up some new shirts for my kids. I also had the chance to check out the littleBits Droid Inventor Kit, something I've been considering getting for my 7 year old daughter. She has shown an interest in coding and coding plus Star Wars just seems so obvious!
Side note, while they didn't have them at the press event, I did come home with a sweet Porg mug. Everyone needs one.
I brought home a few goodies for my family from Disney Consumer Products, but the special screen printed Porg shirt is MINE! I love having such a special memento from the event, and besides it matches my mug!
I have to ask you, do you know about Movies Anywhere? It's one of my family's most favorite apps. It allows you to watch your favorite movies, well, anywhere! I was excited to see them at the event, because it's such a entertainment staple in our household.
If you're an ice cream fan, I also have some sweet news for you! Ample Hills Ice Cream was there with Limited Edition Star Wars ice cream. And let me tell you... amazing.
One of my favorite displays was a simple one, imagery from Galaxy's Edge - the new Star Wars land that's coming soon. We're already talking about our trip and my family and I are so excited!
Rian Johnson also had his camera on-set during filming, and took some spectacular shots, several of them were on display at The Last Jedi Press Event. Here are just a few I thought I'd share.
My experience on Sunday was so amazing - I felt so immersed in the Star Wars experience and it felt special to be included in something that has been so important to my husband and I for decades. I'll carry these memories forever. And I cannot wait for the movie next week!
