There are a lot of things you can do to sleep better and wake up relaxed. Instead of overwhelming you, here are some of the basics. Thanks to Philips Wake-Up Light for sponsoring this post.
6 Things you can do to sleep better and wake up relaxed.
Cut back on the caffeine and sugar. Lots of research shows caffeine likes to hang out in your system and disrupt your precious sleep. Stop consuming it by 2pm, and 5pm at the latest. Keep water by your bed to sip as needed.
Go to bed only when you’re sleepy. I’m guilty of this. If you can’t fall asleep within 15 to 20 minutes, get out of bed!. Go into the living room and read, knit or another quiet activity until you’re tired again – no tv! It will wake you up more.
Create a sleep schedule and stick to it. It works for kids, so it will work for adults! Having a regular sleep schedule will help you fall asleep. I realize that you may not be able to go to bed at the same time every night, but you can establish a regular wake-up time, even on the weekends. I know it’s tempting to sleep in, but you shouldn’t.
Make sure your bedroom is comfortable. Science shows people sleep better when they are cool, but also make sure you have enough blankets on your bed to stay warm. Have comfortable night clothes. Both of these are important to keep you from curling and potentially putting stress on your back. Its also important to make sure you have enough room to move around – which might mean getting a bigger bed.
Having a good pillow is key. I love my Ghost Bed mattress, and we recently upgraded our pillows to GhostPillows. My husband was skeptical, but he agrees these new pillows have made sleep so much better. They are amazing for temperature regulation. As your body temperature naturally adjusts throughout the night, GhostPillow adapts keeping you cool and comfortable.
Try a gentle alarm clock. Your body doesn’t like to be jolted out of sleep with a jarring alarm. If anything, it might make you, feel more groggy. Sunlight tells your body to wake up, so you’ll be awake to start the day. In the winter, this isn’t always easy, which is why I love my Philips Wake-Up Light!
Why is the Philips Wake-up Light a better alarm clock?
Philips Wake-up Light is clinically proven to provide a more energetic wake-up in the morning. Designed to mimic a sunrise, it slowly gets brighter 30 minutes prior to your desired wake-up time (you can also have relaxing music kick in to help with the wake-up as well). The result is a gentle and refreshing wake-up experience that gradually raises you out of sleep – instead of a jarring alarm clock. What does this mean for your morning? This natural wake-up will leave you feeling more effective and alert – ready to conquer those essential morning tasks.
Way better than a jarring alarm. It’s been so much easier to get out of bed, have some water and start my day, and when I have to get up at 6am to get the kids ready for school, I need all the wake up happy I can get.
And when it’s time for my bedtime routine to begin again? The Wake-Up Light has sunset simulation! Sunset simulation prepares your body to fall asleep by gradually decreasing light and sound to your set duration.
