42 years ago a little space film graced theaters, and the Skywalker Saga began. For years, we assumed those were the only Star Wars movies we would know. Then came the prequels, the Star Wars stories, and then the final trilogy. Tonight is the final story in the Skywalker saga.
We screened the movie earlier this week, with other members of the press. I'm going to tell you, this isn't going to go the way you think. I know there were a lot of questions and speculations after The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. If you have them, don't bring them with you into the theater. You may find the answers you are looking for in the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga.
The Rise of Skywalker: Spoiler Free Review
If you're worried that what you've seen in the trailers gave everything away, don't be. Trailers usually show clips from the beginning of the movie, so they won't ruin any surprises.
We know of some of the battles, but we don't know the why. Emperor Palpatine has a presence in the film, as we know from the trailers, but that's all we know. You need to watch the film, I won't tell you.
I loved seeing the dynamics between Poe and Finn, and Rey and Kylo Ren. Their characters continue to grow in the journey.
and of course, we saw our Princess. We still miss her.
Some of what you'll find in The Rise of Skywalker
Epic space battles.
Family.
Old friends.
New friends.
Jar Jar Binks was the Emperor all along.
Light.
Dark.
We’ve passed on all we know. A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight. -Luke Skywalker
What we've learned over the years is that a Jedi must overcome their fear to complete their training. In the Rise of Skywalker, this is true of many of the characters in the film. Poe, Finn, and even Kylo Ren. These fights against their fears are some of the most climatic moments in the story.
One of the continuing themes ongoing in the Star Wars film is how the past often revisits. Yoda, Obi Wan... the Force intertwines the story, and everyone has their place, whether they are present in The Rise of Skywalker or not.
We’ll always be with you. No one’s ever really gone. -Luke Skywalker
I'll admit, I'm a bit sad knowing that The Rise of Skywalker is supposed to be the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga, but I don't think it's the last of seeing some of the characters we've grown to love. For some of them, I believe their stories will continue in years to come.
See The Rise of Skywalker in 4DX
Now that my husband Alan and I have seen The Rise of Skywalker (twice!) it's time to take the kids! Their favorite way to see films is at a Regal Cinemas 4DX theater. They love being immersed in the film and feeling like part of the action!
The Rise of Skywalker is rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence and action. Some scenes may be intense (for all ages) and there is mild language in the film.
