Just because you're gluten-free doesn't mean you need to give on taste or breakfast favorites! Franz Bakery sent us their new gluten free bread to try this week and it was pretty delicious! When I realized what a nice dense bread the 7 grains was, I knew it would be perfect for french toast.
I was right! So tasty! Neither my husband or myself could even tell it was gluten-free. Considering that "most" gluten-free products "taste different" I thought this was a real plus.
French Toast with Franz Gluten Free Bread
Ingredients:
Franz Gluten Free 7 Grain Bread
2 eggs, lightly beaten
about ½-3/4 milk depending
1-2tsp pumpkin pie spice
butter!
Directions:
Preheat a flat non-stick pan on your stove with a little bit of butter. I keep it pretty low at first so I don't burn the butter.
Lightly beat your eggs, milk and pumpkin pie spice in a dish suitable for giving your bread slices a bath. I use an 8x8 glass Pyrex dish.
Place 2 pieces of bread in your dish and let them soak up the batter goodness, turning them once or twice. Don't let them soak up too much or you'll make a huge mess!
Carefully place the soaked bread in your preheated pan, carefully turning after a few minutes. The bread should be lightly browned on both sides.
You can enjoy with a bit of butter and maple syrup right away, or you can make the WHOLE LOAF and keep it warm in your oven (set at about 200 and place on a baking sheet)
The result is delicious french toast that you'd never know was gluten free!
Why Gluten Free products are different
Something to remember about gluten free products is they all have a very short shelf life. They either need to be used quickly or frozen since they use cultured rice flour as a natural preservative. So when you bring your Franz Gluten Free bread home, be sure to use it right away or pop it in your refrigerator or freezer!
